Mudslides over the weekend buried the town of Zhouqu in over 22 feet of stone and dry land after torrential rain started to fall Saturday evening. Early, rescue attempts were hard because the earth was too soft and unsound for machinery, driving rescue workers to use diggers, hoes, and their hands to dig any possible subsisters.
