Petra The Great Temple

Petra is the treasure of ancient world, hidden behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains, boasting incomparable scenes that make it the most majestic and imposing ancient place still existing . It has been said "perhaps there is nothing in the world that resembles it". The rock-carved rose-red city of Petra is full of mysterious charm.
Petra is the most famous and gorgeous place in Jordan located about 262 km south of Amman and 133 km north of Aqaba. It is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southern Jordan more than 2000 years ago. Petra is now a UNESCO world heritage place and one of The 7 Wonders of the World that wonders visitors from all side of the world.
It is the Persian period, and it is posited that during this time the Nabataeans migrated into Edom. But little is known about Petra proper until about 312 BC by which time the Nabataeans, one of many Arab tribes, occupied it and made it the capital of their kingdom. Although there were struggles between the Jewish Maccabeans and the Seleucid overlords, Nabataean trade continued. As one of the most spectacular sites in the Middle East, Petra has long attracted travelers and explorers. Modern excavations continue to increase our understanding of the site and correct the work of earlier scholars.
The approach through a kilometer long, cool, and gloom chasm a long narrow gorge whose steeply rising but obliterate the sun, provides a dramatic contrast with the magic to come. Petra is always breathtaking, and never to be forgotten. It flourished for over 400 years around the time of Rome and Christ (pbuh), until it was occupied by the Roman legions of the Emperor Trajan in 106 AD.
The Great Temple was first explored by Brünnow and von Domaszewski, but it was Bachmann, in his revision of the Petra city plan, who postulated the existence of a “Great Temple”. He speculated that the temple was approached through a monumental Propylaeum with a grand staircase leading into a colonnaded, terraced Lower Temenos. . However, it is still one of the most appealing attractions of all over the world owing to its historical significance.
